WAYA Athletic Director:

WAYA is currently looking for a fun, dynamic, and responsible Morning Front Desk Associate to join our fabulous team. Our main facility is in West Austin and is conveniently located on the UT Shuttle route.

Position Summary:

WAYA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing recreational opportunities for the youth of Austin. WAYA serves over 10,000 youth annually through over 30 sports programs, camps and a preschool.

The Athletic Director will be a dynamic, experienced, and dedicated leader with demonstrated skills in recreational sports management, building a cohesive team of staff and volunteers, parent communication and developing outstanding programs. Each season, they will work to coordinate and execute all needs of WAYA’s sports programs. The Athletic Director will continually evaluate and develop the programs to ensure operating at their fullest potential.

The Athletic Director reports to the Director of Operations and supervises the Assistant Athletic Directors and Front Desk Staff.

WAYA’s centrally located facility has three gyms, a baseball field, a multi-purpose field, a pre-school, and a gymnastics facility. Along with the main facility, WAYA schedules and maintains five City of Austin baseball fields and two City of Austin multipurpose fields on Cesar Chavez.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with youth, great customer service and solid conflict resolution skills. They will be able to communicate well and form healthy relationships with parents, coaches and officials, have good problem-solving skills, be able to multitask, and have a high attention to detail. They will be able to work independently without close supervision.

Position Duties:

Leadership

  • Provide administrative direction and oversight for all athletics programs and activities and supervise the purchasing, control, issuance and maintenance of athletic equipment and facilities
  • Supervise full and part-time athletic staff and volunteers including hiring, orientation, training, mentoring, timesheets, and supervision of program staff and volunteers
  • Ensure that all staff members and volunteers are informed, their activities are well coordinated, and they have the necessary resources to be productive and contribute to the goals of the organization in a positive, team-oriented manner.
  • Develop and enhance the relationships with strategic partnerships within the community, including the City of Austin, the University of Texas, AISD, partner organizations, youth sports organizations, nonprofits, the business community, donors, and others.
  • Develop and oversee systems of operation, including budgets, adherence, and accounting of funds.

Daily Operations

  • Manage WAYA sports leagues and programs, oversee registration, assigning of teams, training of coaches, scheduling of practices and games, and scheduling of referees
  • Recruit, train, lead, manage, and motivate, dedicated staff and coach volunteers and league commissioners.
  • Have a working knowledge of a variety of sports rules (Flag Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer), WAYA policies, and officiating.
  • Mediate disputes between players, parents, staff, and coaches.
  • Provide supervision of a facility that is open seven days a week 8:30am to 9pm. Frequent evening and weekend hours.
  • Communicate and coordinate daily with the Facility Director and grounds crew regarding the needs of the day, week and season overall. This includes presenting them and their manager practice and game schedules.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Operations the allocation and reservation of all field and facility use. This includes but is not limited to leagues, private lessons, gymnastics, the preschool, meeting spaces, and outside vendors.
  • Coordinate outreach opportunities with local schools
  • Coordinate program marketing needs with the Communications Director
  • Available and accessible by cell phone, email, or in person for emergencies.
  • Conducts financial/business analysis including preparation of facility reports to board.
  • Other duties may be assigned

Position Requirements:

  • A degree or certification in recreational management, physical education, or a related field and a minimum of five to ten years of related experience, with at least three years of management experience.
  • A strong commitment to providing fun recreational opportunities for youth to reach their potential.
  • Strategic and operational planning abilities.
  • A proven track record of leadership and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent verbal, writing, and public communication skills.
  • A desire to learn more about positive coaching and providing new recreational sports opportunities.
  • Driver's license required.
  • Preferred Certifications - AED/CPR and First Aid.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and analytical skills. Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable and courteous service to customers. Ability to effectively present information. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive issues.
  • Requires advanced knowledge of financial terms and principles. Ability to calculate intermediate figures such as percentages and discounts. Conducts advanced financial analysis.
  • Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to solve problems involving several options. Requires advanced analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and Google Products.

Must be eligible to work during these hours:

  • Core hours are 5 days per week, 12pm-8pm, with days off varying by season (possible “weekends” would be Monday & Tuesday September-October, Sunday & Monday November-February). Must be consistently available on nights and weekends.

Salary Job Type: Full time
Pay: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year

WAYA Evening & Weekend Front Desk Associate:

WAYA is currently looking for a fun, dynamic, and responsible Front Desk Associate to join our fabulous team. Our main facility is in West Austin and is conveniently located on the UT Shuttle route.

Position Summary:

The Front Desk Associate is responsible for general customer service and will help monitor all sporting events and facility rentals to ensure participant and spectator safety and enjoyment. Other duties include answering phones and email inquiries, prepping gyms and fields for games and practices, closeout procedures and general facility upkeep/cleanup.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with youth, great customer service skills, and general computer and phone knowledge. They will be able to communicate well and form healthy relationships with parents, coaches and officials, have good problem-solving skills, be able to multitask, and have a high attention to detail. They will be able to work independently without close supervision.

Position Duties:

  • Provide Customer Service to Clients through phone, email & in-person communication
  • Use WAYA’s Sports Management Software to pull reports, and look up client information
  • Work with Facilities & Fields Manager and Athletic Directors to maintain the facility including upkeep of common areas (parking lot, bleachers, lobby, sidelines etc.) and assist with game day set up.
  • Inspect gyms, fields, and equipment & complete facility walk-arounds regularly

Position Requirements:

  • Sufficient means of transportation for every shift
  • Must have basic experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, Gmail & Google Apps (Drive & Calendar)
  • Must be approved and cleared through background check
  • Must be physically capable of lifting and transporting heavy equipment (up to 45 lbs.)
  • Must be friendly and professional

Must be eligible to work shifts during these hours*:

  • Monday-Friday 3:00-10:00pm
  • Saturday 8:00am-1:30pm and 1:30pm-9:00pm
  • Sunday 11:00am-7:30pm

Report Directly to Athletic Directors
Age Requirement: 17 and older
Salary Job Type: Part time, includes frequent evenings and weekends
Pay Starting at: $14 / Hour

*Shifts are normally 6-8 hours long

WAYA Preschool Assistant Teacher:

WAYA Preschool is a half-day preschool with 7 classrooms of children ages 1-5 years old. We have low ratios and a great staff to work with. We offer paid training, CPR, and First Aid. We offer weekly music classes to our children and have access to gyms to use in inclement weather. We have a great playground and garden too! 

Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, the following:

  • Assist in planning and implementing the daily program under the direction of the Lead Teacher.
  • Assist in planning and preparing the learning environment, setting up interest centers, and preparing needed materials and supplies.
  • Supervise the classroom as part of a team.
  • Lead activities and supervise the classroom when the lead teacher is not in attendance.
  • Help with the general housekeeping tasks.
  • Assist the Lead Teacher in other ways as requested.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and loyalty to WAYA at all times.
  • Treat all children with dignity and respect.
  • Attend all staff meetings and required paid training programs and conferences.
  • Assist Lead Teacher with the implementation of appropriate early childhood education experiences.
  • Help to maintain a neat and organized classroom.
  • Help children establish good habits of personal hygiene; change diapers and assist with toilet training.
  • Supervise all activities to ensure safety at all times.
  • Report to Lead Teacher any problem which may occur with the children.

Hours:
8:00 am - 1:15 pm, Monday- Friday
(With the possibility of working until 2:15 pm)
Open to flexible schedules!

8 weeks off with no pay for assistant teachers. Must be able to work in the summer.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
